The Ins and Outs of Outfall Inspections

Outfall - ASI Group

Through the years, ASI’s team of ROV pilots, technicians and engineers have inspected outfalls throughout North America and internationally. When operating in low visibility environments, it is important to have customizable equipment that can adapt and work with any challenge. Our specially trained and experienced staff customize and test new innovations using our in-house underwater robotic facilities and fabrication shops. ASI has always been passionate about developing and delivering visionary solutions for our clients.

Remote Intervention

In 2005, ASI worked on developing and implementing an effective repair method to seal a leak in the Ponce Deep Sea Outfall located in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The challenges presented by the site conditions included diving inside the ocean outfall and precisely controlling an ROV from a working vessel in up to 6-foot seas. This led to the development of not only a new grout mixture designed for deep water pipe leak repairs, but also a new application method for internally repairing non-dewatered, deep water pipe leaks, as well as a visual imaging system to monitor progress of the repair.

Fast forward to 2020 and ASI is known for our leadership role in the viability of using ROV’s for the purpose of engineering inspections of tunnels and pipelines, including wastewater and stormwater conveyance systems. ASI works with our clients to help manage their systems in an economical and effective manner. Our fleet of customizable ROVs are outfitted with 2D and 3D sonar technology and high-resolution video, capable of locating any anomalies during an underwater condition assessment.
