ASI Group provides advanced hydrographic survey, ROV inspection, and data-driven infrastructure assessment services across North America and internationally. Our Remote Services team supports complex marine and underwater infrastructure projects through high-quality data collection, processing, and technical deliverables. We are currently seeking a CAD Technician, a position ideal for someone looking to build a career in hydrographic mapping, 3D point cloud and photogrammetry processing, deliverable generation, and technical drafting within a collaborative engineering environment.
Position Overview
CAD Technicians at ASI play a critical role in turning complex survey and inspection data into clear, usable outputs for engineers, owners, and operators. This role focuses on developing foundational CAD skills, learning ASI mapping standards and workflows, and contributing to high-quality client deliverables.
This is a primarily office-based role with occasional travel to support field teams or project coordination.
This position will be based out of the Orchard Park, NY office.
What You’ll Do
CAD Production
- Produce bathymetric mapping outputs (e.g., contours, color surfaces) using ASI’s CAD workflows, standards, and quality procedures.
- Assemble drawings, figures, and mapping components for engineering reports and client deliverables.
Data Processing Support
- Support preparation of 3D point clouds, photogrammetry models, and related datasets.
- Assist with organizing project files, templates, and datasets in accordance with ASI standards.
Quality & Documentation
- Review your work for accuracy and participate in peer review processes.
- Maintain clear documentation of data sources, workflows, and project files.
Technical Support
- Assist with workstation setup, data processing challenges, software updates, and basic troubleshooting.
Field & Project Support
- Participate in field operations or project tasks as needed (including occasional travel).
The Ideal Candidate
- Has post-secondary education in Drafting, CAD, Engineering Technology, Surveying, Marine Geomatics, or a related technical field
- Minimum 1 year of experience using CAD software (i.e. Carlson, Autocad, Microstation, or equivalent) and eager to build technical proficiency to grow toward CAD, data processing and/or technical roles
- Is organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Has strong attention to detail and takes pride in producing clean, accurate work
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 and collaborating through tools like Teams
- Holds a valid driver’s license and passport, with the ability to travel occasionally
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
- Enjoys collaborating with technical teams and learning from more experienced staff
- Proficiency in hydrographic-related software (i.e., HYPACK, Sonarwiz, etc) is considered an asset
- Knowledge of Photogrammetry or 3D point cloud editing and associated software is an asset
Hours of Work and Travel Expectations
- Primarily office-based
- Occasional travel (up to ~10%) to support projects or field teams
- Overtime may be required periodically to meet project deadlines
