ASI Group Ltd., founded in 1987 as Aquatic Sciences Inc. is recognized as the industry leader in zebra mussel control research and design. We currently operate treatment systems utilizing chemical and non-chemical options for various industries. Our state-of-the-art biofouling control systems include monitoring, maintenance and prevention programs that minimize the risk and cost of unscheduled downtime. Treatment of water systems is effective, safe and economic.
ASI Group Ltd. is currently searching for Field Technicians for the Biofouling Services Group to support the busy season ahead. These contract positions will start full-time as of May 18th and end on October 30th, 2026 and involve environmental sampling, analysis, and field equipment maintenance at remote locations in Northern Manitoba.
Dates are tentative and subject to change. Special arrangements for the start date and training may be possible for those graduating this spring. Fixed-term contract position may lead to a permanent position with benefits.
Training & Deployment
- Successful candidates will undergo training in Sarnia for approximately 3-4 weeks before deployment (anticipated at the end of May) to Gillam, Grand Rapids, Jenpeg, Kelsey and/or Thompson, MB.
- Once deployed, technicians will stay in a camp setting for the entire duration of the project (except for the initial training period in Sarnia).
- Meals and accommodations will be fully provided while in Manitoba and any other work locations outside of Sarnia.

Team members must produce thorough and detailed results under high-demand work conditions. All new hires will participate in an extensive ASI Group Ltd. specific training program to ensure a safe work environment and operational efficiency.
Work Schedule & Compensation
- $25.00/hr starting wage
- $15/hr premium for all work performed above the 55th parallel
- Shifts: 8 hours per day (could be up to 12 hours based on operational needs)
- Work will be scheduled up to 6 days per week, with one guaranteed day off.
- Overtime paid in accordance with Employment Standards
- Due to the remote nature of the project, travel to and from camp may take multiple days.
- Time off during the season will only be granted for extenuating circumstances.
Field Technicians will:
- Represent the company projecting a professional image
- Provide regular communication with Supervisor or Project Manager on assigned projects
- Follow all safety legislation and site safety standards
- Load, secure and safely transport equipment
- Collect samples, analyze and report results within a deadline
- Receive, transfer and transport chemicals (certified under TDG)
- Perform basic equipment adjustments, repairs, conduct routine monitoring, maintenance and fabrication
- Operate tools and machinery
- Troubleshoot processes and equipment
- Maintain a safe, organized and clean work environment
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
- College diploma or certificate from a relevant program such as Instrumentation and Control; Environmental Technician; Biology or Water and Wastewater Operations
- Minimum of one year of related work experience considered an asset
- Familiarity with working in industrial and/or laboratory settings considered an asset
- Capable of performing mathematical calculations and understanding data to modify instrumentation equipment accordingly
- Able to perform duties independently and work closely with other team members for long periods of time
- Ability to set priorities and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail is critical, along with the ability to record accurate readings
- Aptitude for learning new skills quickly and implementing them in different environments
- Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, along with strong decision-making abilities
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license (Class G2 minimum); successful applicants will be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract from the MTO
- Must be comfortable driving a pick-up truck with trailer
- Must hold a valid passport or equivalent
- Mechanical and electrical experience is an asset
- Operator in Training (OIT) qualified (Drinking Water or Wastewater) considered an asset
- Competency in a Windows environment, including Excel, Outlook and Word
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Able to travel within Canada as needed
- Must be available for all shifts, which will include weekends and holidays
- Schedules will vary from week to week based upon operational requirements
- Demonstrates flexibility in work schedule to meet client requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments
