ASI Group ended 2019 by taking on a massive first-of-its-kind project in Kenya. Spending 15 days in Machakos and Embu counties, ASI carried out 27 inspections of KenGen’s diverse assets.
Using a fleet of ROV equipment outfitted specifically for each job, ASI inspected KenGen’s underwater assets from intake and outlet structures, spillways, stilling basins to long tunnels from their five power plants. These inspections were important to KenGen as they were able to benchmark the health of their underwater assets with video, sonar data, and bathymetric surveys because many of them had never been inspected before.
The project was notable to ASI because of the size of the inspection. Not only were over 50 personnel involved including support staff, operators, police, wildlife police, management and ASI Group ROV operators, Sonar operators and techs. But logistically, ASI was proud to have executed 27 inspections during outages dictated by Kenya Power.
